Care beneath the chaos: The immense dedication of Israel’s nurses in wartime
Even during routine times, Israel’s healthcare system faces intense overloads, but wartime has pushed the nation’s nurses to their absolute limits. At Barzilai Medical Centre, as in many other hospitals across the nation, entire wards were forced to relocate to cramped underground basements within a matter of hours. Despite the crowded conditions, nurses continued to provide crucial care with unwavering smiles. Many of these frontline healthcare workers were pulling 24/7 shifts while their own young children stayed in hospital daycares. Others, displaced from their homes since October 7th, endured exhausting daily commutes across the country just to show up for their patients. In this video, Shaul Skif, Chairman of the Israeli Nurses Union, salutes the extraordinary workforce that gives 150% to 200% despite extreme burnout. He vowed to fight with a whole heart for the support, health, and normal routines they deeply deserve.
