History in the Histadrut as first woman ever elected as chair of the Construction Union
Mazal Golan, 49, married and a mother of two, has been elected to lead the Union of Construction and Related Industries Workers. Golan currently serves as Deputy Director in the Economic Division. She will replace Yitzhak Moyal, who has chosen to step down after decades of service at the Histadrut. Mazal is the first woman to serve as Chair of the union.
Histadrut Chairman Arnon Bar-David congratulated Golan on her election and said:
“Mazal is a rising star in the professional union world and a respected expert. She comes from the field, knows the work of the workers’ committees, and understands how to represent employees. I am confident she will succeed in her new role and take the union to new heights.”
Bar-David also thanked the outgoing chairman, Yitzhak Moyal, for his many contributions to the union and its members:
“You led this union through some very difficult years, and you succeeded tremendously – for that, we thank you.”
Mazal Golan thanked the Histadrut Chairman for his trust, as well as the outgoing union chair, the union secretaries, and the committee representatives. She expressed pride in being part of a leading and important union and acknowledged the great responsibility now resting on her shoulders:
“I gladly, joyfully, and with great determination accept this challenge, and I look forward to fruitful cooperation. I will do whatever it takes to meet – and exceed – expectations.”
Yitzhak Moyal congratulated Golan and wished her success in her new role. He expressed confidence in her abilities and said he was certain she would achieve significant accomplishments for the benefit of the workers.
“Although I am passing the baton, I feel we are not parting. I will be there to help whenever I am called. Thank you to Arnon, to the workers, and to the entire Histadrut,” Moyal said.
