UCAPSE Opposes Installation of Cameras in Kindergartens

The UCAPSE, the union representing kindergarten assistants in Israel, has come out against the installation of cameras in kindergartens. In a letter to the Knesset committee, the union’s chairman, Gil Bar-Tal, said that the cameras would harm the privacy of the professional staff and the children in the kindergarten. He also believes that they could lead to a mass abandonment of the profession, which is already facing an acute personnel shortage.

Bar-Tal called for the law to be immediately removed from the agenda and for the protocol of the meeting to be amended to include the Histadrut’s position.

“The installation of cameras in kindergartens would be a serious violation of the privacy of the professional staff and the children,” Bar-Tal said.

Bar-Tal also expressed concern that the cameras could lead to a mass abandonment of the profession. “Many kindergarten assistants are already leaving the profession due to low pay and poor working conditions,” he said. “The installation of cameras would only make the situation worse.”
