According to Arnon Bar-David, “If immediate steps are not taken, hundreds of thousands of babies, toddlers, and young parents will be harmed.” Chairman of the Histadrut: “In the current state of affairs, the organizations will have difficulty ensuring the opening of the upcoming school year as planned”

Chairman of the Histadrut Arnon Bar-David today urged Prime Minister Yair Lapid and asked for his personal intervention to save the daycare industry for toddlers from complete. According to Bar-David, “Already in the coming school year, 10,000 toddlers will be left without a daycare center. If immediate measures are not taken, the industry will collapse, and as a result, the entire field of public daycare centers – something that will harm hundreds of thousands of babies, toddlers, and young parents.”

According to the chairman of the Histadrut, “for years, the organizations that operate supervised daycare centers for toddlers have been warning that the industry is facing collapse, due in part to a shortage of staffing. This shortage is mainly due to poor wage conditions, unacceptable employment conditions, and a system that does not provide proper care for babies and toddlers.”

Bar-David adds, “it is already known that at least 60 public daycare centers will be closed due to the acute shortage of preschool teachers. Despite appeals, protests, and struggles from the organizations, critical issues such as improving the status, salary, and working conditions have not been settled… Last October, the organizations were again forced to go into battle, after which it was agreed that the Joint Price Committee of the Ministry of Finance and the Labor Branch of the Ministry of Economy and Industry would be convened to conduct a basic review of the regulated tariff. Unfortunately, to our complete surprise last week, we learned that the Price Committee would recommend a slight increase of the daily dormitory rate and passing the increase on to the parents, who are already paying high tuition fees that burden young families.”

“I am appealing to you with this urgent request for your personal and immediate intervention to resolve the crisis,” the chairman of the Histadrut ends his letter to the Prime Minister, warning that “in the current state of affairs, the organizations will have difficulty ensuring the opening of the upcoming school year as planned.”
