Alcalay to lead the IUGE into the future

The Histadrut approved the appointment of Adv. Ofir Alcalay as the new Chairman of the Israel Union of Government Employees (IUGE).
Alcalay replaces Ariel Ja’acobi, who is retiring after 16 years as Chairman, and will take up his post on 1 October.
Mr. Alcalay has extensive leadership and trade union experience. Since 2019, Alcalay has served as General Manager of the Histadrut, the General Federation of Trade Unions in Israel, and as Chief of Staff of the Chairman of the Histadrut, leading and implementing a revolution in organizational structure and membership services.
In the last two decades, Alcalay has served in a series of senior positions in the Histadrut, including Director General of the Union of Clerical and Public Service Employees (UCAPSE), CEO of the associations for professional advancement, and CEO of the “Shelcha” consumer club.
As Chairman of the IUGE, Alcalay will be entrusted with the representation, negotiating, and fighting for the rights of approximately eighty thousand members of the IUGE employed in all government ministries, companies, and government agencies. Among the entities whose employees belong to the IUGE: the National Insurance Institute, the Employment Service, the Tax Authority, the Postal Company, the Land Authority Israel, Netivei Israel, the Water Authority, the Innovation Authority, the Israel Consumer Council, the Prisoner Rehabilitation Authority and other workplaces.
Alcalay (52), married and a father of four, lives in Kibbutz Harel. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the College of Management and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Haifa. A passionate nature and history buff, Ofir is also an accredited tour guide.
