A new collective agreement for the 320 Egged Heseim drivers was signed last week, marking a significant victory in our ongoing mission to elevate the professional standing of transport workers. This three-year agreement, signed between the Transportation Workers Union, company management, and the workers’ committee, introduces a robust package of wage increases and social benefits designed to provide long-term stability and dignity for those behind the wheel.

Strengthening wages and social security

At the heart of this agreement is a direct increase in hourly wages for all drivers. Recognising the unique challenges of the transport sector, we have also negotiated substantial increases to daily meal allowances and overnight stay compensation.

Beyond immediate pay, we have prioritised our members’ future financial security. For the first time, employees with seven years of seniority will be entitled to the maximum employer contribution to their study fund (Keren Hishtalmut) at a rate of 7.5%. Additionally, to address regional operational needs, drivers at the Eilat branch will now be eligible for a dedicated quarterly bonus.

A new chapter for labour relations

This agreement is the result of a determined, professional negotiation process aimed at reinforcing the backbone of the company, its drivers. Egged Heseim, a subsidiary of the Egged Group specialising in organised transport for institutions, tourism, and schools, relies on the skill and dedication of its workforce.

“The Transportation Workers Union continues to improve drivers’ wages and create stability in the industry,” stated Adv. Roi Blitental, Director General of the Transport Workers Union. “I thank all the partners who joined forces to bring real news to the employees of Egged Heseim.”

Adv. Tali Greenberg, Head of the Private Transport and Haulage Division in the Transport Workers Union, regarding the new agreement: “After prolonged negotiations with the management of Egged Heseim, in which all the members of the workers’ committee acted with determination and responsibility, we have reached an excellent agreement for the company’s drivers. This agreement significantly improves the wages and working conditions of the drivers. We will continue to act on behalf of the drivers and for the improvement of their pay and labor conditions.”

The essential nature of logistics and transport work is often undervalued. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that “decent work” is not just a slogan but a reality for every driver. By securing sector-wide stability and industry-leading benefits, we continue to lead the charge in protecting the rights of those who keep our economy moving.
