New standard for Egged Golan transport workers
A first collective agreement for Egged Golan employees was signed today, marking a landmark achievement that guarantees fair wages and improved working conditions for transportation workers in Israel’s northern region.
The agreement covers about 80 employees, who unionized with the Histadrut six months ago, and will remain in effect until 2029, ensuring long-term stability and job security. Egged Golan, which began operating public transport lines in the Golan Heights two months ago, replaces the previous operator and now sets a new standard for labour relations in the region.
Drivers’ Pay Set 57% Above Israel’s Minimum Wage
Under the new agreement, drivers will earn a minimum hourly wage of ₪54, indexed to the cost-of-living index—57% higher than Israel’s legal minimum of ₪34.32. In addition to the wage increase, the agreement provides a validation bonus for drivers, enhanced pension contributions (including on the validation component), a meal allowance, improved welfare conditions, and formal regulation of employment relations. These measures collectively ensure fair treatment and stability for workers who provide essential services to the public.
“This agreement reflects recognition of the hard and dedicated work of drivers and employees and proves the power of unionization,” said Adv. Eyal Yadin, Chair of the Transport Workers’ Union. Avi Gabai, Head of the Histadrut Kinneret District, added: “This is a significant step to strengthen workers’ status and establish fair conditions in Egged Golan.”

Why It Matters
In an industry often marked by instability, collective bargaining ensures more than wage increases. It provides the continuity of worker representation, safeguarding fair treatment and long-term security. The Histadrut remains firmly committed to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring better pay, better conditions, and stability during ownership transitions and market changes.
