Edri to depart Histadrut Transport Union
The Chairman of the Israel Transport Workers’ Union, Avi Edri, asked the Chairman of the Histadrut, Arnon Bar-David, to end his position. Edri, one of the union’s founders, has been its Chairman since 2008 and was a leading partner in organizing, unionizing, ground-breaking collective agreements, and significant reforms in the industry, including the seaport reform. Edri has served simultaneously as the Chairman of the Histadrut unionization division for the past three years. Edri is expected to retire from the Histadrut at the end of this year, following his desire to explore new avenues.
In a message conveyed to the members of the union’s secretariat and committee members, he wrote: “I have reached a crossroads where I have decided to retire from the Histadrut. We went through everything that can be done in the world of labor relations, and we passed through everything safely. I want to thank each of you for the trust and the joint and unique path we have taken together.”
Today the union represents nearly thirty thousand workers, including the public transport companies, the airlines, the travel industry, Israel Railways, the Airports and Seaports Authority.
Chairman of the Histadrut, Arnon Bar-David, stated: “Avi is a first-class trade unionist, a model of responsible leadership and a partner in significant achievements of the Histadrut for all transportation workers in Israel. I thank him for his challenging and rich service and wish him personal and professional success in the future. The Transport Workers Union is an important union, and the Histadrut, under my leadership, will continue to strengthen it with great professionals like Avi.”
