Histadrut Chair Arnon Bar-David: A morning of hope — and a call to rebuild after two years of war

Oct 09, 2025

“This is one of the most emotional mornings of my life,” said Histadrut Chairperson Arnon Bar-David. “This moment is an answer to the hopes and prayers carried in millions of hearts for more than 730 days, to see our brothers and sisters come home.”

The Histadrut welcomes the announcement that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire plan, a long-awaited step that is expected to bring the hostages home and end the suffering on both sides.

“But this day is not only one of joy,” Bar-David continued. “It is also a day of remembrance. We will never forget the 913 heroes of Israel’s defense forces who gave their lives with courage and devotion so that this day could come. We will honor their families, and stand by all those wounded in body and spirit as they begin the long road to healing.”

For over two years, working families across Israel and Gaza have lived through unimaginable hardship. The prospect of a ceasefire, humanitarian relief, and a roadmap toward lasting peace offers hope that life can begin again, that communities can rebuild, economies can recover, and children can grow up without fear.

“As it is written: ‘Seek peace and pursue it’ (Psalms 34:15),” Bar-David said. “Now begins the work of rebuilding and reconciliation. We must put Israel back on track, united, compassionate, and determined to turn pain into purpose.”

The Histadrut calls on all parties and the international trade union movement to seize this moment, to protect workers, strengthen civil society, and ensure that every family in our region shares peace, security, and dignity.

“Together,” Bar-David concluded, “we can rebuild, reconnect, and restore hope for our people, for our neighbors, and for the generations to come. Am Yisrael Chai.”
